2013 Regional Seminars

Each spring, the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey hosts free regional trainings for health and human service staff to learn more about brain injury. The focus of this year’s trainings will be pediatric brain injury. 

In 2011, 1,346 children and youths aged 0-21 were hospitalized with Brain Injury in New Jersey. An additional 34,880 were seen in emergency departments.

Come learn more about how you can assist children and adolescents affected by brain injury, along with those caring for them. 

The agenda includes sessions on:

Speakers Include:

Barbara Leech, PhD is a clinical neuropsychologist with private practices in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Dr. Leech’s private practice includes conducting neuropsychological evaluations, primarily in pediatrics, supervision of cognitive remediation specialists, and neuropsychology services at Weisman Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital. She has also served as a school and development psychologist.

Connie Domingo, MD, FAAP, FAAPMR is the Medical Director for Weisman Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Congress of Rehabilitative Medicine, and American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, she is a frequent lecturer on the topic of the rehabilitation of brain injury form a physical and medical perspective.

Janet Gwiazda, RN, BS, MBA, NJDHS, Division of Disability Services – Providing information on state services for pediatric brain injuries.

Self-Advocacy for People with Brain Injuries

For persons with acquired brain injuries, the ability to advocate for themselves is an important component of rehabilitation, and a key to long-term positive outcomes. By playing a role in decisions that affect them, survivors of brain injury are empowered to take charge of their lives.
